Description of the position
The Programme Officer will support development and implementation of the Investing and Partnering with Youth for Peace (IPYP) initiative, as laid out in the Foundation’s Strategic Framework and Annual Work Programme for 2026.
IPYP is a multi-stakeholder platform currently housed at the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation that aims to 1) identify, research and recommend potential options for additional resource mobilisation and partnerships with the private sector to advance youth-led peacebuilding and 2) to mobilise partnerships and coordination around efforts to strengthen the investment and partnership of young peacebuilders.
The Programme Officer will serve as a project coordinator on the IPYP project team and support IPYP’s capacity to implement work related to the following outcomes:
Advancing fundraising partnerships with the private sector to increase support for youth-led peacebuilding.
Strengthening knowledge management, coordination and partnerships related to investing and partnering with youth.
The Programme Officer will also work 50% of the time, with the Executive Director and other staff on strategic funding partnerships and mobilisation of quality funding to the Foundation.
Responsibilities and tasks
While specific tasks may be adjusted to allow for new opportunities and changing circumstance, the Programme Officer will:
Support efforts to develop, maintain and update project strategies, plans and budgets and to monitor and report on outcomes.
Support efforts to build and maintain relationships and partnerships with IPYP members and other actors. This includes multi-lateral organisations, governments, civil society and the private sector.
Support outreach efforts, including fundraising efforts for a) core funding to IPYP and b) research and development funding for IPYP portfolio projects.
Provide support to advance research and analysis, planning, development and implementation across IPYP’s portfolio. Current priorities include:
Support efforts to strengthen the governance of the IPYP Steering Committee and to develop a monitoring, evaluation and learning framework.
Provide logistical and administrative support, including planning and implementing events in support of the IPYP community of practice;
Oversee that the IPYP website is up to date, in coordination with the Foundation’s Communications team.
Lead efforts, in coordination with the communications team, to develop and disseminate publications, blogs and reports on IPYP and IPYP initatives.
Support occasional ad-hoc tasks as needed in support of the Foundation’s overall programmatic work.
Additional tasks in support of work programmes as assigned by the Programme Director(s).
On strategic partnerships and resource mobilisation, in collaboration with the Executive Director:
Support in operationalizing the Strategic Partnership Approach into the Annual Work Programme.
Mapping of relevant partners and funding sources.
Outreach and relationship building with possible partners and funding partners.
Drafting of proposals and applications to prospective funding partners.
Coordinate joint resource mobilisation efforts across the Foundation.



Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. social or political science, international relations, peace and conflict studies), or similar qualifications otherwise acquired.
Minimum of 5 years work experience in relevant fields and tasks such as fundraising, communications, partnership management, multi-stakeholder programmes, project/programme administration and/or coordination.
Demonstrated experience with outreach and fundraising, preferably with the private sector.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced international environment.
Ability to take initiative and work independently.
Open-mindedness, flexibility, the ability to be a good team player, and an understanding of the work of a value-based organisation.

Internal: Supporting staff engaged in programmatic work. Collaboration is primarily within the IPYP team, but the Programme Officer will also engage with other programme teams, the communications team and administrative staff at the Foundation.
External: Collaboration with partners and external consultants as relevant to programmatic work.



Terms of employment
The Programme Officer will be based at the Foundation’s office in Uppsala, Sweden, with a minimum presence of 3 days a week at the office (60%).
The Foundation has a collective agreement through Fremia, for Salaried employees in civil society.
Salary upon agreement.

Take part in the development and implementation of activities and outputs in the Foundation’s UN Funding and Effectiveness Programme Area. Such as:
Build capacity of Member states, Resident Coordinator Offices and UN agencies on mobilisation of quality funding through organising and facilitating seminars and meetings on UN Funding and Funding Compact.
Participate in the planning and production of the report series Financing the UN Development System, in partnership with UN MTFO and/or other partners.

Description of the position
The Strategic Communication Manager is responsible for advancing the Foundation’s communication in line with its Strategic Framework and Annual Work Programmes. The role combines senior-level strategic advice with hands-on delivery across digital, print, and event communication channels.
Working closely with the Executive Director and programme teams, the Strategic Communication Manager plays a key role in enhancing the visibility of the Foundation’s work, promoting the legacy of Dag Hammarskjöld, and engaging stakeholders across the multilateral system and beyond.
Communication is a cornerstone of the Foundation’s programme work. The purpose of communications and outreach is to build support for the Foundation’s vision, mission, objectives and values, and to expand awareness of its work. The Foundation’s communications aim to inspire dialogue, encourage engagement, and influence policy and networks in line with our principles.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Leading the renewal, development, and implementation of the Foundation’s communications policy and strategy.
Leading the Foundation’s communication work in close cooperation with programme teams.
Providing strategic communication advice to the Executive Director, Management Team, and Programme Teams to ensure consistent and impactful external and internal messaging aligned with the organisation’s strategy.
Overseeing communication activities in line with the Foundation’s Strategic Framework and Annual Work Programmes.
Managing the production, commissioning, and editing of high-quality content, in close collaboration with programme teams, for the Foundation’s website, newsletters, social media channels, and other platforms.
Coordinating the communication aspects of the development, production, and dissemination of flagship reports and publications, in close collaboration with programme teams, ensuring editorial quality and alignment with the Foundation’s branding.
Planning and executing communications for events, including promotional materials, media outreach, and live coverage.
Designing and leading campaigns and initiatives that highlight the legacy of Dag Hammarskjöld as part of the Foundation’s programming.
Monitoring trends in communications, digital engagement, and media, and recommending improvements.
Supporting media relations, including drafting press releases, handling media inquiries, and maintaining and expanding media contacts.
Additional tasks in support of work programmes may be assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications
A university degree (Bachelor or higher) in communications-related fields such as Journalism, Media/Communications, Public Relations or equivalent.
At least 8 years of professional experience in communications, with demonstrated expertise in strategic communications and outreach.
Proven ability to write, edit, and produce communications tailored to different audiences.
Experience addressing communication aspects of policy issues related to the UN agenda on peace, sustainable development, and human rights.
Solid knowledge of managing digital content, modern information technology platforms, and social media platforms, with the ability to oversee and hands- on produce digital content (including basic design and layout).
Experience in event communication and management.
Strong project management and coordination skills, with an ability to initiate and drive tasks and ideas forward in collaboration with colleagues.
Excellent command of English. Good command of Swedish is a strong asset.

Terms of employment

The Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation, (Stiftelsen Dag Hammarskjölds Minnesfond), is a non-governmental organisation established in 1962 in memory of the second Secretary-General of the United Nations. It aims to advance dialogue and policy for sustainable development and peace. The Programme Manager will work on the Foundation’s core programmatic activities as laid out in the Strategic Framework and the Annual Work Programme for 2025. The position will have a focus in supporting the Foundation’s capacity to implement work related to the following immediate outcomes:
Increased awareness of the UN system for financing development and trends among key stakeholders.
Increased awareness of, and engagement at, the country level for the implementation of the UN Funding Compact.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Take part in the development and implementation of activities and outputs in the Foundation’s UN Financing Programme Area. Such as:
Organising and facilitating seminars and meetings with key stakeholders on the 2024 edition of the report series Financing the UN Development System.
Participate in the planning and production of the 2025 edition of the report series Financing the UN Development System, in partnership with UN MPTFO.
Continuing review of the implementation of the Funding Compact at the country level, in partnership with UN DCO.
Exploring challenges and opportunities with key UN donor Member States on pooled funding, core funding and soft earmarking.
Participating and representing the Foundation in official meetings.

Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant field (eg social or political science, international relations), or similar qualifications otherwise acquired.
Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience.
Experience from within the UN system, and/or as a UN Member State representative working towards the UN system, and/or civil society engagement with the UN system.
Experience on development financing and/or UN reform and UN coordination.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced international environment.
Ability to take initiative and work independently.
Open-mindedness, flexibility, the ability to be a good team player, and an understanding of the work of a value-based organisation.
Willingness and ability to participate in limited international travel.


Merits

Reporting and Relations:
· The Programme Manager will report to the Programme Director of the Foundation’s UN Financing Team.

The role
We are recruiting a Head of Communications to spearhead our strategic communications and to lead the communications team. The Head of Communications oversees two communication staff and reports directly to the Executive Director, serving as part of the Foundation’s management team.


Main responsibilities
Responsible for the planning, delivery, and reporting of the Foundation’s yearly communications strategy.
Advise the management team on communication issues and support their external and internal communication efforts.
Manage communications staff (and occasional consultants), providing both managerial oversight and mentoring.
Oversee production processes and conduct quality control on all communications products, particularly flagship reports, ensuring consistency in tone and design.
Maintain overall oversight of the Foundation’s website and social media channels.

Requirements

Knowledge of the multilateral system and of the UN in particular. Familiarity with recent academic and policy developments related to protecting and governing global public goods is a must. Expertise on UN reform and its evolution is a merit.

The Programme Officer position will be engaged in and support all areas of the Foundation’s programmatic work, mainly global governance-related activities, including the finance report and Funding Compact.

Responsibilities and tasks
Support planning, implementation and follow-up for projects, including in-house and external events (e.g. seminars, workshops, lectures) through, for example drafting invitations, making travel arrangements and compiling and disseminating materials.
Contribute to producing and editing written material (articles, policy papers, reports, blog posts) related to the assigned projects(s).
Follow ongoing research and events on issues and themes related to the Foundation’s work programmes and report back to Programme Director(s) and Managers.
Coordinate and support projects and activities across all thematic focus areas of the Foundation.
Participate in teams working on strategy, policy, monitoring and evaluation of the Foundation’s activities.
Perform additional tasks in support of work programmes or administration as assigned by the Programme Director(s) and/or the Executive Director.


Qualifications

Description
The Programme Assistant will support the Foundation’s core programmatic activities. The position also will involve supporting development of a new multi-year strategic framework and programmatic activities that are conceptualised and initiated to implement the new strategy.
The Foundation’s programmatic work falls within four thematic areas that are inherently linked and integrated:
1. Peacebuilding and sustaining peace;
2. Multilateralism and international norms and governance;
3. Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; and
4. Repositioning of the UN system.
The Programme Assistant position will be engaged in and support all areas of the Foundation’s programmatic work.
Responsibilities and tasks
· Support planning, implementation and follow-up for projects, including in-house and external events (eg. seminars, workshops, lectures) through for example drafting invitations, making travel arrangements and compiling and disseminating materials.
· Contribute to production and editing of written material (articles, policy papers, reports, blog posts) related to the assigned project(s).
· Follow ongoing research and events on issues and themes related to the Foundation’s work programmes and report back to Programme Director(s) and Managers.
· Coordinate and support projects and activities across all thematic focus areas of the Foundation.
· Participate in teams working on strategy, policy, monitoring and evaluation of the Foundation’s activities.
· Perform additional tasks in support of work programmes or administration as assigned by the Programme Director(s) and/or the Executive Director.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (eg. international relations, political science, global studies). A Master’s degree is preferred but not required.
· Minimum of three years relevant professional experience, preferably with global issues, UN processes or development cooperation.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. Proficiency in other languages is desired.
· Detail-oriented and the ability to take initiative to develop activities and to advance programmatic work.
· Open-mindedness, flexibility, the ability to be a good team player and an understanding of the work of a values-based organisation. Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm working in a fast-paced international environment.
· Willingness and ability to participate in limited international travel when it becomes possible and safe to do so in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reporting and relations
· The Programme Assistant will report to a Programme Director.
· Internal: Support to staff engaged in programmatic work. Collaboration takes place mostly within project teams, but the Programme Assistant will also work closely with the Communications team and administrative staff.
· External: Collaboration with partners and external consultants as relevant to programmatic work.
Terms of employment
· The Programme Assistant will be based at the Foundation’s office in Uppsala, Sweden. (Note: At present, Foundation staff are for the most part working remotely in accordance with guidelines for minimising the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19.)

The Programme Manager will support the Foundation’s core programmatic activities as laid out in the Strategic Framework 2018-20 and annual work programmes and provide input to the development of future plans. The position will be primarily focused on the formulation and implementation of work related to the Foundation’s thematic area of Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace.
Priorities within this area include:
The Foundation supports the implementation of the Sustaining Peace resolutions (SCR 2282 – GA 70/262) and the UN’s efforts to promote prevention.
The Foundation aims to facilitate policy discussions on issues related to inclusivity in peacebuilding with a particular focus on women, youth and marginalised groups.
The Foundation supports dialogue and mediation for the prevention and resolution of violent conflict, including training initiatives in this area and analysis on the implementation of peace agreements.

As with all of its programmatic work, the initiatives within the Foundation’s work on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace are inherently linked and integrated with efforts in the other three thematic areas: multilateralism and international norms and governance; implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; and Repositioning of the UN System.

The role
We are recruiting a one-year Communications Manager to support our programmatic work, acting as our print and digital editor and leading our digital outreach. The Communications Manager works in close partnership with a fellow communications colleague but reports directly to the Executive Director.
Main responsibilities
Act as editor for all print publications, reviewing all text and supporting programmatic staff through the publication production cycle.
Produce and review written content for our online communication channels, including the website and social media.
Create digital strategies and execute digital outreach for our flagship publications and other communication products and events.
Monitor all our digital channels and stay attuned to online conversations relevant to our work.
Monitor and evaluate the outcomes of our digital outreach.

Who you are
We are looking for a person with a minimum of five years of work experience in communications.
You will need to have hands-on experience of communication work such as text editing for publications and writing for the web including social media, blogs, and news stories. Experience with video production and editing a plus.
As a person you are a strong project manager and possess an ability to initiate and drive tasks and ideas forward. You are inspired by digital content and can engage a broader audience. You transform policy rhetoric into impactful and simple messages.
You are a native English speaker with an excellent command of the English language. Having a good command of the Swedish language is a merit but not a requirement.
You already have the right to work in Sweden (the Foundation will not be able to sponsor a work permit).
